The GLAA is pleased to announce a new project designed to offer current players professional mentoring opportunities with alumni. Given the depth and breadth of areas that Gaucho Lacrosse Alumni have achieved success in, we believe this program has the potential to be extremely beneficial in preparing the current players for their post-lacrosse endeavors.
At this stage, the intent is to match seniors with alumni for an informational meeting to share lessons learned and strategies for entering the work force. Based on the success of this effort, plans are being developed to expand the audience to include juniors and other underclassmen in the future.

We are currently collecting interest cards from the team and the initial response from both the players and coaching staff has been overwhelmingly positive. The next step is to collect information from interested alumni. If you are interested in participating, please fill out this form with a brief description of the areas you have expertise in, general geographic area you live/work, and your LinkedIn profile if you have one. For those on LinkedIn, please take a minute to join the UC Santa Barbara Men's Lacrosse Alumni at: http://lnkd.in/bTyrTtW.

Gaucho Lacrosse Number Sponsorship Program

The GLAA is bringing back a popular way to support UCSB Lacrosse. The Number Sponsorship Program is a unique way for former Gaucho players to support the program and connect with the current team.

NUMBER SPONSORSHIP SIGN-UP

The Details:

1) With a minimum donation and by declaring your intention to "sponsor your number", your Name
, Position, and Class Year will be listed on a plaque alongside your teammates and fellow donors. The
plaque will be displayed on campus at UCSB.

2) The current Gaucho player who shares your jersey number will write you a "Thank-You Letter", introducing himself to you, and thereby opening up the lines of communication between current players and alumni. This letter will serve as the first step in building a relationship, friendship, and mentorship with the team... or simply allow you to become familiar with someone on the current team when you return to watch a game.

3) Your number sponsorship is good for one year.

4) In the event there is no one wearing your number, we will have any player whose number was NOT sponsored (or a player of your choosing) take on the role and reach out with his "thank you" in order to connect you with a player.

5) Donors may also choose to sponsor the number of a former teammate who has passed away or request to reach out to a specific player of their choosing.

6) Sign-ups for this program will be open until the end of the calendar year and your donation is tax deductible.

Sponsorship Levels:

- With a $200 donation, the donor will receive a "thank-you" from the current player with that number.

- With a $350 donation, the donor will receive the letter and a team shooting shirt or polo with the number on it.

- With a $500+ donation, the donor will receive a letter, shirt or polo, and a sweatshirt with the number on it.

March 13, 2013:

Gauchos Rank 6th in the Nation

The 2013 season is underway, and the Gauchos have started strong with a 4-2 record. The early portion of the schedule has been tough with five of the Gauchos' six games played against Top 25 opponents.

In the season opener, UCSB traveled to Palo Alto to take on Stanford. After racing to a 5-1 lead, the Gauchos faced a furious comeback by the Cardinal. The lead changed

hands several times in the fourth quarter and eventually went to overtime. Stanford was able to capitalize on a transition play to win the game 12-11.

The following weekend, the Gauchos bounced back with wins over #18 Cal Poly (12-3) and #14 Cal (9-8 in overtime). Out of conference opponent and 24th ranked Northeastern was the next opponent for UCSB. The Gauchos defeated their visitors from Boston 12-9 on a beautiful day at the new turf facility.

The following weekend, the team hit the road for a difficult road trip to Las Vegas to face SLC North Division rival UNLV, and the top ranked Rams of Colorado State. In the first game, the Gauchos were able to hold off a pesky squad from UNLV and earn their first division victory 8-6. The next day against Colorado State, UCSB controlled the first three quarters of the game and held an 8-4 advantage heading into the fourth quarter. The Rams battled back and forced the game into overtime. The Gauchos again found themselves falling just short, and lost 11-10 in sudden death.

Of the Gauchos start to the 2013 season, Head Coach Mike Allan said "When three of the first six games are decided in overtime, you know that it's going to be an interesting year. We are encouraged by our ability to compete with the top teams in the MCLA, but also frustrated by being a couple of plays away from being 6 and 0. We have a young team and we have certainly learned a lot through the first month of our season."

October 10, 2012:

We would like to congratulate Dave Winnacker, '97, on his induction to the UCSB Lacrosse Hall Of Fame.
Dave was a Captain senior year and helped lead the Gauchos to the first ever National Finals in St. Louis.  Dave's ability to take the ball away while never being out of position was a huge factor in the team going as far as it did. Every year, his work ethic and level of physical fitness helped push others to be better. He was a leader both on and off the field and the team truly looked up to him. He is one of the best UCSB defensive players to ever have worn the jersey.  The dedication and leadershipp he displayed on the field caried over to his service in the Marine Corps, where he has served his country as an officer in the infantry division in Iraq and other places across the globe. GO GAUCHOS!

The brand new Gaucho Lacrosse Alumni Web Site is now online. It has been a long road and we're excited and proud to help bring alumni together in a way that has never been done before. With this new platform we hope to be able to reconnect, and introduce ourselves to alumni from different eras.

The goal is to help promote and contribute to the UCSB Lacrosse legacy, but we also hope that this new site strengthens the bonds already formed.  Make sure you sign up in the "Join Us" section.  Once a member you will have access to other alumni contact information that is ONLY available to members.  ONLY former lacrosse players will be permitted to join and only members will have access to this section. The purpose is to allow us to reconnect and allow for potential networking opportunities.
